Pushing Pride: When activism conflicts with women’s rights, gay rights, and the safeguarding of kids
Sat Jun 8, 2024 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Cowichan Community Centre, V9L 2X5
Description
When interests collide: Pride began as a means to push for gay rights, as well as for acceptance. But today, the parade, the activism, the symbols, flags, and the messaging has become increasingly focused on trans activism. Lesbians are being told they must accept men as potential partners; kids are being taught that boys can be girls and girls can be boys; we are seeing adult entertainment offered to kids in the form of Drag Queen Story Hours and more; and women's safety, interests, and rights have been pushed entirely to the wayside. We all want to support equal rights, safety, and acceptance for gay men and lesbians, but adding the "T" to the rainbow has created a conflict of interest and potential harm for women and kids.
Join Vancouver Island Speaks! on Saturday, June 8th to discuss modern LGBTQI+ activism and the potential conflicts or even harms caused by trans activism.
This event will feature a panel discussion followed by a
Q&A.
